Representative White filed an amendment to entice the manufacturers of firearms, firearm parts, or ammunition to relocate to Missouri or expand their existing facility in Missouri by adding these businesses to the projects that may receive benefits under the Missouri Quality Jobs Act. Representative White focused on firearm manufacturers because many of them that are located in states that are passing restrictive firearms laws are looking to relocate to states that are friendlier to their industry. What a great opportunity to bring more jobs to Missouri.
Representative White is sending letters to the gun manufacturers to invite these businesses to relocate to Missouri. The program is capped at three million dollars annually and has a six year sunset provision. To participate, a manufacturer must create new jobs at 120% of the average county wage (Jasper county’s average wage is approximately $31, 200). Representative John McCaherty’s (R-097) underlying bill, HB 630, modifies the Manufacturing Jobs Act by expanding the qualifications to include any business with a standard industrial classification code that manufactures in the state, and it increases the aggregate amount of tax that may be retained by all qualified manufacturing companies under the act to $60 million per calendar year.
