Education officials in New York have taken the same approach to Common Core Standards as the ones in Missouri.
Meetings are scheduled to explain Common Core, but once people begin expressing their opinions about it and questioning certain aspects, the state officials shut down, refuse to answer, and treat the people who have concerns like they have the plague.
New York Education Commissioner John King, after running into the groundswell of opposition to Common Core at Poughkeepsie Thursday night during the first of a series of scheduled meetings, simply canceled the rest of the meetings.
In Missouri, DESE scheduled meetings, either did not bother to publicize them much, or simply found itself aided by compliant administrators who jumped on the Common Core Standards bandwagon, many times without even telling the local boards of education.
