Highway Patrol arrests Neosho man on Oklahoma felony warrant for embezzling

A Highway Patrol stop 11 p.m. Saturday in Miller County led to the arrest of a Neosho man on an out-of-state fugitive felony embezzlement warrant out of Delaware County, Oklahoma.

According to the Delaware County District Court probable cause affidavit, charges were filed against Michael Shawn Shearer, 47, Neosho, after a company where he formerly worked, Care Source, noticed that the gas card of a former employee was still being used months after that employee left.

An investigation determined that employee had allowed Shearer to use his card number while the two were still working for Care Source. A Care Source official identified Shearer from surveillance footage at the Harp's store in Grove.

According to the affidavit, the card was used 21 times to buy $1,573.53 worth of gas. Shearer admitted to charging $1,220.22 of that total. The purchases were made between December 28, 2017, and July 19, 2018.

A bench warrant was issued for Shearer's arrest October 10, 2018.

During his Highway Patrol stop Saturday night, Shearer was also cited for a Newton County misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear on a driving while revoked charge.
