(From the Missouri Department of Economic Development)General Mills, a leading global food manufacturer, announced August 29 that it will expand in Joplin, investing $48 million and creating 47 new jobs at its frozen dough plant location.
The company’s expansion will increase its manufacturing and packaging capacity to meet increased demand and product innovation from food service customers. Construction is underway and is scheduled to be completed in early 2024.
“We’re proud to see an industry leader like General Mills investing and creating jobs in our state,” said Governor Mike Parson. “This company’s expansion in Joplin is great news for our southwest region and the hardworking Missourians who call the area home. Our commitment to improving infrastructure and strengthening our workforce continues to bring growth that’s benefitting communities statewide.”
General Mills’ expansion in Joplin will include the use of new technology, such as semi-automated processing and packaging, to improve production and operational efficiencies. Upon completion, the company’s Joplin location will have the capability to produce more than 1 billion pounds of frozen dough products each year.

For this expansion, General Mills will benefit from the Missouri Works program, a tool that helps companies expand and retain workers by providing access to capital through withholdings or tax credits for job creation. The company is also receiving assistance from Missouri One Start, a division of the Department of Economic Development. Missouri One Start assists eligible businesses with their recruitment and training needs.

Joplin - has always been one of the better communities in Missouri for companies to build or expand in, based on its location and major highways from Route 66, to I44 (East & West), and Hwy 71 to I49 (North & South). A railroad Hub which also included freight and passenger trains - Plus the Cheaper and Abundant Work Force the area has to offer.
The sad situation is if you go back 75 to 100 years ago - Joplin had the Opportunity to be similar in size to Springfield, but because a few of the Founding Fathers and several Local Business Owners of the Time who did not want Joplin to Expand and have to be competitive - this would have caused them to Pay Higher Wages - Joplin, being a rough and rowdy town of miners (lead & zinc), bars, gambling, brothels, and hotels.
Had our City Fathers and Community Leaders had the Forethought to be Forward Thinking and see all the Opportunities and Capabilities within this Community - not only Joplin would have grown and prospered, but given our current and future generations an opportunity to stay in this community instead of moving out after high school or college.
In the last 50+ years, Joplin has continued its past legacy of not creating or looking for future growth opportunities -
We see how our City Leaders - Mayor and City Council, School District mishandled the 2011 Tornado and Community Rebuild - Fraud, Theft, Misappropriation, Lawsuits, Broken Opportunities - David Wallace and Costa Bajjali - Fake Developers - Who our Mayor and City Council - Praised for being the next Risen Phoenix - to bring Joplin back from the ashes.
What a Laugh and a Joke on the Community of Joplin - for Trusting these LAME - City Leaders - who some only wanted to line their own pockets.
Several of these City Leaders - should have been Prosecuted and Jailed for their decisions and costing our Community - Millions of Dollars - - - but we let them get away with it. WHY???
So maybe we should - STOP and THINK - the Next Time we Vote or Elect Individuals into Offices that they are Plainly Not Qualified for and HOLD them Accountable for their Actions.
