Newton County 911 director leaves for Wisconsin job

This is one of the most bittersweet posts that we have had to make to date. It is with the greatest pride and most profound sadness that we announce that Director Chancy Huntzinger will be leaving Newton County for an amazing opportunity as the Executive Director for the Brown County Public Safety Communications center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

 
For the past 8 years, Chancy has been one of the most important members of the Newton County public safety community. Although most of you have never heard her name, I can assure you that her presence and influence have had an undeniable impact on public safety matters in Newton County.

 
Chancy started with Newton County Central Dispatch on September 8, 1997 as a part-time warrants clerk. In January of 1998, she was promoted to a full-time position handing payroll duty along with her responsibilities as a warrants clerk. In 1999, Chancy found her passion when she became a dispatcher.

In November of 2005, she began to manage our agency’s quality assurance program, and was promoted to Training Coordinator in April of 2010. In January of 2015, she became Director of 911, and has faithfully served Newton County as Director ever since.

 
While serving as Director in Newton County, Chancy has/was…

• An integral part in the implementation of a public safety tax that now funds our 911 system, along with providing financial assistance to other first responder agencies.
• Improved the working conditions for the 911 dispatchers of Newton County.
• Increased the number of dispatchers from 12 to 18.
• Upgraded the equipment and implemented up-to-date technology in the 911 center.
• Helped oversee the integration of Text-to-911 in Newton County.
• Instrumental in the implementation of county wide public safety software.

 
Chancy has been here for some of the county’s biggest disasters-the 2008 Newton County tornado, the 2011 Joplin tornado, and the flood of 2017.

 
If you were to ask Chancy what her greatest accomplishment has been thus far, her answer would be her children. If you have ever had the pleasure of spending time with Chancy, you would know that she lives her life for her family.
