Alba man charged after shooting TV set with children in room

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child (four counts) charges Monday against an Alba man who allegedly shot a television in front of his children when he became tired of his daughters not listening to him, according to the probable cause statement.

The arraignment for Dennis Lee Bland (DOB 1989) is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court.  His bond is set at $100,000 cash only.

From the probable cause statement:

On 06/01/2025 I, Sergeant Nathan Deherrera #371, responded to an address inside Alba Missouri, within Jasper County Missouri for a disturbance involving weapons.

Reporting party Andrea Bland advised she had received a phone call from her adopted daughter, Juvenile #3, stating her ex-husband Dennis Bland had discharged a Heritage "Rough Rider" .22 caliber revolver into a TV while multiple juveniles were in the room.

After locating Dennis and advising him of his Miranda Rights, Dennis stated he was tired of his daughters not listening to him and refusing to turn down loud inappropriate music.

Dennis stated he discharged the revolver into the TV to make it unusable.

The room Dennis discharged the firearm into was small, and contained Juvenile victims #1,#2,#3, and #4. Juvenile victim #1 was standing directly in front of the TV as Dennis raised the firearm to discharge it.

The incident was recorded by one of the Juvenile's cell phones, which I was able to view, and preserve a copy of. Juveniles #1,#2, and #3 are adopted daughters to Dennis, while Juvenile #4 is a neighbor who regularly spends time at the residence. The Juveniles were visibly distraught during the incident. The firearm was located and seized.

Dennis smelled heavily of intoxicants and had slurred speech during my contact with him. Dennis provided a PBT sample that showed positive for presence of alcohol.

The case was investigated by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

So it’s against the law to shoot a gun in the presence of kids ?

It was the mix of alcohol and a gun that disturbed me the most about this incident.
