A Webb City woman has been charged with felony driving while intoxicated and three misdemeanors after crashing her vehicle while talking on her cell phone.
An additional charge, endangering the welfare of a child, was recommended by the Carl Junction Police Department, but was not filed, according to Jasper County Circuit Court online records.
The complaint notes that Morton has pleaded guilty twice to charges of excessive blood alcohol content.
From the probable cause statement:
On 2/24/2025, at 1310 hours, Sierra S. Morton was driving her vehicle southbound on MO Highway 171. She had Minor Victim 1 in the vehicle in a booster seat directly behind her. Ms. Morton was babysitting the child.
Still southbound, Ms. Morton crossed the Center Creek Bridge. She was intoxicated, talking on her cell phone and became distracted by Minor Victim 1.
The crash left the toddler, who was in the booster seat, with a 3-inch vertical mark, one inch wide on the left side of her face, either from the seatbelt, or the airbag, according to the probable cause statement.
The statement indicates Morton claimed she had insurance with "The General," but a call to the company showed she had not had insurance since 2022.
I saw in plain view nine "shooter bottles" of American Honey on the passenger floorboard. Three were missing from the 12 pack. No empties were found. I also located a glass meth pipe in the center console. It tested positive for meth by using a Nartec field test kit.
