The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed a second-degree assault charge today against a Webb City man who allegedly beat another man with a tool multiple times and then punched him in the face during a road rage incident Saturday.

Johnathan Dayton Roberts (DOB 1967) is free after posting aa $50,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin.

From the probable cause statement:

On October 24, 2026, officers were dispatched to 1807 W. 7th Street Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri, regarding an assault. During the investigation, I contacted the victim, John Bouchard. Bouchard stated he had been involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a white work van, later identified as Johnathan Roberts.

Bouchard stated that after an altercation in traffic, Roberts pulled into the parking lot of 1807 W. 7th Street. Bouchard stated Roberts exited his vehicle, retrieved a metal tool and approached him.

Bouchard stated Roberts struck him twice in the stomach with the tool. Bouchard further stated he attempted to stop the second strike, at which point Roberts struck him in the temple with the handle of the tool causing an injury to his head. Bouchard stated Roberts then punched him in the face with a closed fist.

I observed injuries to Bouchard consistent with his statement. Photographs of the injuries were taken and submitted into evidence. Witnesses on scene provided statements and video recordings that corroborated the incident.

The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
