Special Ethics Committee to hold hearings on three bills

Hearings on three bills are scheduled to take place when the Special Standing Committee on Government Accountability and Ethics Reform meets at 8 a.m. today.

-HB 1838, sponsored by Rep. Jake Zimmerman, D-Olivette prohibits elected officials from acting as lobbyists for one year after leaving office.

-HB 1846, sponsored by Rep. Steve Hobbs, R-Mexico, includes provisions prohibiting legislators from working as political consultants, defines bribery and corruption laws, and requires officials to disclose political contributions from those whom they are appointing to any office or position.

-HB 1872, sponsored by Rep. Shane Schoeller, R-Willard, prohibits the use of public funds for lobbying purposes.

The committee chairman is Rep. Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho.
