Lee's Summit Republican: Looming unaccreditation of Kansas City Schools is on the horizon

In his most recent newsletter to his constituents, Rep. Mike Cierpiot, R-Lee's Summit, following Speaker of the House Tim Jones' four G's, including guaranteeing access to great education. But Cierpiot also talks about how important it is because of the "looming unaccreditation" of the Kansas City Schools. Considering that Kansas City Schools should have been given provisional accreditation this year for their improvements, is Cierpiot suggesting the district is going to sink again?

This week, lawmakers made their return to Jefferson City to start the 2014 Legislative Session.  I am very excited to get back to work for you in Jefferson City!

This year our focus is on a legislative agenda that House Speaker Tim Jones refers to as the 4 “G”s. The “G”s represent Growth and opportunity for all Missourians, Guaranteeing access to a great education, Generating affordable and abundant energy and Guarding and protecting Missouri values.

The Guaranteeing access to great education part certainly resonates in our area, with the looming un-accreditation of the Kansas City Schools on the horizon.  As a member of the house education committee, this will be a priority for me in the upcoming session.  I will keep you up to date on our efforts as we proceed through this session.

As always, I value your opinion and thoughts on legislation as it moves and develops in the Missouri Legislature.  Please feel free to contact my office anytime at 573-751-0907 or email at Mike.Cierpiot@house.mo.gov.
