Maybe it was because there was too much big news going on, and there was a lot of news on tonight's 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, thanks to a man who allegedly committed arson at two places he owns.
But unless I missed it, none of our local TV stations chose to crawl in the gutter with The Joplin Globe on the story it ran in this morning's edition about newly-elected Joplin R-8 Board of Education member Rhonda Randall.
I won't go into detail about the Globe story, but I was concerned that this could turn into a media circus and damage a lot of lives needlessly. (Check Wednesday's Turner Report for more information.)
The news directors for our local stations came down on the side of requiring that stories actually be news before they put them on the air. We owe them a debt of gratitude.
