In the past, I was extremely critical of the way The Joplin Globe handled the deaths of prominent citizens.
It is only fair to let you know just how well the newspaper has done in recent months, time after time giving prominent play to citizens who have contributed to the community and deserve more than just a paid obituary.
Reporter Debby Woodin struck just the right note with her feature on Red Wilcoxson, longtime owner of Fred & Red's, maybe the best known eatery on Joplin's Main Street.
She not only let people know about Red, but she also brought back pleasant memories for anyone who has eaten in that establishment for the past eight decades.
This was a job well done.
