Hearing set for sprinkler system bill

A public hearing for HB 952, which would require long-term care facilities to install sprinkler systems, is scheduled for 12 noon Tuesday in Hearing Room 6.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, was filed in the aftermath of the Nov. 27 fire at the Anderson Guest House in which 11 people were killed. The hearing is being held before the Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee.
The bill is co-sponsored by 19 representatives, including Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin.
Wilson wrote about the bill in his most recent column:

This coming week will be especially important for me as HB 952 (the Anderson Guest House bill) will be heard in the Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee on Tuesday. Anderson Mayor Bob Corcoran and Fire Chief Shelby Turner will be coming to Jefferson City to testify on behalf of the measure. Last week I had a meeting with the committee chairman as well as the Senate President and House Majority Floor Leader who both have bills dealing with this issue. After the meeting the committee chairman indicated to me that he will combine my bill with the floor leader’s bill and that I would handle it on the House floor when we have debate. I will give you an update on the bill next week after the committee hearing.
