Gov. Jay Nixon said he notified Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan of a Feb. 2 special election to fill the vacancy.
“There is simply no place in public service for those who are involved in bribery,” Nixon said in a statement.

Disgraced St. Louis Democrat resigns House seat
Rep. Talibdin El-Amin, D-St. Louis who pleaded guilty last week in federal court to bribery, officially resigned his House seat Wednesday. El-Amin is the third St. Louis Democrat to resign following a guilty plea in recent weeks, following the lead of Sen Jeff Smith and Rep. Steve Brown:
