Kathee Baird tweets that former Kanakuk Kamp director Pete Newman cried as he told his victims and their families, I would trade my life for your pain."
Apparently, Judge Mark Orr agreed with that sentiment as he sentenced Newman to two life sentences, plus 30 years.

"I would trade my life for your pain" - well, he did. Here's hoping that this brings closure, that the victims and Pete's family are cared for and healing comes, and that Pete gets his life together and is able to be a positive influence on people while living the rest of his life in prison.
This strikes me as just. While Pete deserves this punishment, for those of us that know (or thought we knew) him, it's still a shock. Knowing that Pete will never be tempted with young boys again, I really do wish him all the best, and hope he finds someone to mentor him and care for him (in prison, forever).
Me too Anonymous 1. I hope Pete finds someone in prison to mentor him and care for him. Someone that will rape him multiple times a day (like he did our boys). I hope he finds a very special friend in prison that will twist his mind, pray with him, prey on him, talk to him about God, encourage him to lie to authorities, tell him to lie to everyone about everything, tell him this will take care of his lust, manipulate him, tell him it is just his homosexual tendencies, etc. This is what I hope for Pete....some real very special prison friends!!
ditto
YES, me too!
Pete is likely a victim of fundamentalist religion and the Republican party (i.e. Kanakuk and the like) who deny homosexuality. If Pete had only been able to be who he is and not try to live up to his reverent parentage and employer then this would never would have occured. Too bad he was so charismatic (i.e. profitable), that is why Kanakuk kept him and he was able to do what he did. I feel so sorry for Pete and his wife. If he was only able to be the gay man who he was and is then ...
