Nodler: Teaching to the test has made life more difficult for teachers

Teaching to the test has made life more difficult for teachers, Sen. Gary Nodler just told the audience at the candidate forum at Missouri Southern State University.

Because of that culture, Nodler said, teachers have less time to actually educate children.

Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Darrell  Moore said the federal mandates have made it far more difficult for southwest Missouri teachers to do their jobs.

All candidates agreed that the federal Department of Education and the No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top programs have been nightmares.

Springfield auctioneer Billy Long said, "It's time to dismantle the Department of Education".

What were their positive ideas about developing k-12 education to make it more effective? Or was it just more of the standard political 'all we know is that we don't like X' approach?
