Michelle Lee, a probation and parole officer from District 9 in Joplin, received the Award of Valor on Aug. 2 during a presentation at the District 9 Office.
Lee, a 14-year veteran with the department, was given the award for displaying heroics and bravery in the line of duty. She received the award because she recently notified local law enforcement officials when an offender with a parole warrant reported to the District 9 Office in Joplin. The offender resisted arrest soon after a local law enforcement official began to handcuff the offender. With the help of Lee,
the offender was subdued and taken into custody without any harm to individuals within the District 9 Office.
“I commend Officer Lee for her bravery in assisting with local law enforcement officials to help restrain a parole offender who was resisting arrest,” said George A. Lombardi, director of the Missouri Department of Corrections. “She went above and beyond her duties, and it is this kind of heroic act that merits the Award of Valor.”
The award is given to those individuals within the department whose actions are considered to be heroic and brave. Lombardi traveled to Joplin to present the award to Lee on Aug. 2 and congratulate her on her achievement.
