JC Penney, which filed for bankruptcy in May, is cutting 1,000 jobs, according to a company news release.
The company announced earlier it is closing 152 stores, including two in Missouri, one in Kirksville and one in Columbia.
At this point, the JC Penney store at Northpark Mall in Joplin is not on the closure list. The company reported earlier that it plans to eventually close 242 stores, but did not identify the other 90.
The company's news release indicated the job cuts are primarily on the corporate level and are unlikely to affect the local store.
