Ryan Collier named to Carthage R-9 Board, four teachers, 12 support staff members hired, four teacher resignations accepted

The Carthage R-9 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, July 20, 2020 , 6:00 pm, at Carthage Intermediate Center. 

Present were board members Jeff Jones, Niki Cloud, Bill Lasley, Karen Wilkinson, and Patrick Scott . Lee Elliff Pound attended via Facetime. Jeff Jones led the Pledge of Allegiance. 

The Board approved the Consent Agenda for the purpose of approving the meeting agenda, minutes of previous meetings , payment of bills, financial report, date for tax rate hearing, and a contract for the South Technical Center addition /North Technical Center remodel project. 

The Board conducted interviews with three candidates to fill the board vacancy created by the resignation of Wayne Jones. The candidate chosen will serve until the April 2021 election. Wayne Wilson, Ryan Collier, and Robin Hicklin were interviewed with Ryan Collier selected as the new board member. Ryan Collier was sworn in by Niki Cloud, Board Secretary. 








Mrs. Janeane Myhre, Food Services Director, provided an evaluative report on Food Services, MSIP area G - 8 (9). The district provided 99,084 free meals to students between March 23, 2020 and July 1, 2020. Breakfast participation at the high school continues to increase due to Breakfast After the Bell being offered. Lunch participation increased at the elementary level on Student Choice Meal day. All food service personnel receive annual sanitation training and professional development opportunities. 

Gregg Wolf, Assistant Superintendent for Business, provided an evaluative report on Transportation. The district earned a 96.5% inspection rating from the Missouri State Highway Patrol for outstanding bus inspections. Upgrading bus camera systems continue. One minor accident related to driver error was reviewed by the Safety Review Team in 2019 - 20. Additional training on distracted driving and driving/parking in parking lots will be provided to all bus drivers before the beginning of the 2020 - 21 school year. 

Niki Cloud provided a Carthage R - 9 School Foundation update. The Foundation is pleased to announce the return of the Alumni Football Game - A Game for the Ages as this year’s major fundraiser. 

Dr. Baker updated the Board regarding the following items:

-Congratulations to the 2019 - 2020 Eye of the Tiger award winners Sandy Dickey, Janeane Myhre, Shawn Oberlechner, Ryan Skaggs, and Greg Spink.  

-Construction Service Group was awarded the contract for the South Technical Center addition and North Technical Center remodel project. Their base bid amount of $6,137,300.00 plus estimated fees, furniture, and equipment came in under budget and could potentially provide a substantial principal reduction in the next few years.  

-The district is working on return to school plans. The social, educational, physical, and emotional well being of our students is at the forefront. However, safety for students, staff, and community continues to be our priority.  

-Graduation is still currently set for July 30, 2020, 7:30 p.m. at David Haffner Stadium. Each student will be provided four tickets. The district requests visitors to follow social distancing guidelines and wear masks. The ceremony will stream live on YouTube. The Board met in closed session immediately following the regular meeting to discuss legal, personnel, and student matters in compliance with Se ction 610.021 (1) , (3), and (6 ) of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. 

In closed session the Board accepted the following personnel actions: Approved the employment of certified and support staff presented contingent upon receiving a clear criminal records check from the Missouri Highway Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation and a clear check of the Adult Abuse/ Neglect Registry maintained by the Missouri Department of Social Services for all employees new to the district.
