Neosho Daily News under local ownership again

Call the company Gannett, call it GateHouse Media, call it whatever you want. The good news for residents of Neosho is that it doesn't matter any more.

Jimmy Sexton, whose competitor, the Neosho Post, provided stiff competition to the Daily in the '90s, bought the Neosho Daily News and Aurora Advertiser from Gannett, according to a joint announcement issued issued today.

Sexton and his wife, Rhonda, Neosho residents, publish the Seneca News-Dispatch.

According to the statement, the transaction will close September 1.

While the Daily has not been a daily (it is published twice a week) for quite a while, it has allegedly been updated daily, often with the same identical stories.

At least two newspapers have been spared the death sentence GateHouse/Gannett gave the Carthage Press.
