KGCS to hold Joplin City Council candidate forum

(From Southern News Service)

Voters in Joplin go to the polls on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 to elect their city council members. To help voters learn more about those running for city council seats, KGCS-TV will feature a forum with the candidates at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 29. KGCS General Manager, Bobbie Pottorff, will serve as moderator of the program.

KGCS will broadcast the program live from the Joplin City Council Chambers. The public is welcome to attend. The City will also stream the program live on its website, www.joplinmo.org. If you’re unable to watch live, KGCS will post the forum on its YouTube channel, as well as air it again at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, Thursday, March 31 and Sunday, April 3.

Eight candidates have filed for the council. There are five candidates for three general seats: incumbent Doug Lawson, Josh DeTar, Brian Evans, Kate Spencer, and Jon Thomas Buck.

Two candidates are running for the Zone 4 seat: incumbent Diane Reid Adams and challenger Mark Farnham. Incumbent Gary Show is unopposed for reelection in Joplin’s Zone 1. Citizens vote in all races, regardless of which zone they reside in.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.

What about Mr. Buck's tax's evasion? Can we hear what the consequences were for that? No one like that should be allowed to serve in public office!

Police and Fire could of been fixed but council went with across the board raise! Now there is no money to correct the problem with out raising taxes or cutting Administration staff.

Council Members Adams and Copple voted for targeted raises which would of solved the problem but was out voted by the rest of the council, so remember that when you go to vote, now and in the future!
