Joplin Police Department retires radio numbers of fallen officers

A police officer’s radio number is special to them. It becomes part of their identity. Other officers and dispatchers call them by their radio numbers, sometimes even in person. 

Radio numbers provide another piece of the brotherhood we have in law enforcement. New officers are excited about their radio number as they enter the profession.

 

As the community grieves with us, we thought it would be appropriate to identify their radio numbers:

Cpl Ben Cooper 222
Officer Jake Reed 270

Those radio numbers will be retired in the coming days and not be reassigned again in honor of their sacrifice.
