(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)In 2016, Donald Trump campaigned for president with a simple plan - secure our Southern Border by building a wall. You see he realized many illicit drugs and security issues were streaming across our porous Southern Border. That’s why, when he became president, he secured the funds to start building the border wall.
On January 20, 2021 President Biden was sworn into office, and since he despises everything that President Trump accomplished, he halted construction of the wall and reversed many of President Trump’s successful border policies.
This predictably led to a surge of illegal border crossings, devolving into a humanitarian crisis. The Biden White House said the surge would be seasonal. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
The numbers don’t lie. More than two million illegal immigrants have been apprehended by the Border Patrol since President Biden took office, but the number of deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is at a five year low. This means that more and more illegal immigrants are being allowed into the United States. And the crisis isn’t letting up.

In February, illegal border crossing rose 63% compared to last year. That’s the worst February in more than 20 years. It has been widely reported that many of the illegal immigrants have been allowed to use an ICE arrest warrant as a form of ID to get on a plane.
The Transportation Security Administration requires American citizens to have a photo ID to board a plane, but if you’re an illegal immigrant that is not needed, just an arrest warrant will work to get you in route. The Biden Administration has also been sending illegal immigrants throughout the United States on night time flights to who knows what states. This put citizens of every state at risk not just those that live along our Southern Border.
It’s especially concerning that over 650,000 illegal immigrants not coming from Mexico or Central America have been encountered on our Southern Border since President Biden took office.
Drug overdoses are now the number one killer of Americans ages 18-45 - think about that for a minute. Now consider that record amounts of illegal drugs flow freely across our southern border. You’d think a good place to start cracking down on illegal drugs coming into our country would be at the Southern Border but you would be sadly mistaken.

President Biden has offered no solutions to solve the crisis unfolding on the border, and so the drugs keep coming. We need to stop fentanyl and other illegal drugs from coming into our country, and that starts by securing the Border.

Biden reversed President Trump’s brilliant 'Remain in Mexico' policy and reinstated Catch and Release, a policy that allows illegal immigrants apprehended by the Border Patrol to be released into the interior of the United States on ‘Scout’s Honor’ that they will return for their court date. Thankfully the federal courts have forced President Biden to reinstate Trump's 'Remain in Mexico' policy but the damage is already done.

His rhetoric during the campaign also encouraged illegal immigrants to come only after he was sworn into office. That’s why you saw several illegal immigrants coming through Mexico wearing Biden-Harris t-shirts. They knew, along with the human smugglers who control that side of the border, that President Biden’s policies would be more lenient towards them. That’s why they decided to come now, and not during the four years President Trump was in office.
It’s high time we get serious about border security. If you go down to McAllen, Texas, you’ll see all of the materials for the border wall piling up and rusting away in the desert sun. These materials have already been paid for by the United States government, and the money for more has been allocated by Congress, yet because of President Biden’s policies, it’s all just sitting there, waiting to be used. We need to finish the border wall that President Trump started, and finally secure our Southern Border. Trump derangement syndrome is real and unfortunately President Biden has a bad case of it.
