Duenweg man charged with felony leaving the scene after allegedly hitting, injuring pregnant woman on Moped

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney filed a felony leaving the scene of an accident charge this morning against a Duenweg man who allegedly struck a pregnant woman on a moped then left the scene without calling for emergency assistance.

According to the probable cause statement, Joseph Arthur Ward (DOB 2001) was westbound on E. 20th Street 4:55 a.m. August 3 when he hit the moped, which had working lights and could be seen, from behind, knocking it about 20 feet.

Ward stopped and dragged the woman and the moped off the road and into the ditch, was with her until 5:23 a.m. then left westbound on E. 20th, the probable cause statement said.

An ambulance eventually took the woman, who was four months pregnant, to a hospital to be treated for bruising. She was still hurting a week later, according to the statement.

The Duquesne Police Department conducted the investigation.
