A Joplin man has been charged with two counts of animal abuse and one count of animal neglect or abandonment after allegedly hitting and choking a dog multiple times, all misdemeanors.
An arrest warrant was issued for Brandon S. Youngblood (DOB 1991) with bond set at $1,500, according to Newton County Circuit Court records.
From the probable cause statement:
I responded to a call regarding animal abuse at {location redacted). Upon arrival, I contacted Witness 1 who reported that he had observed the resident of {redacted} abusing a dog. Witness 1 stated that he heard a disturbance outside his residence, looked out his window to the north and saw a male choking and hitting a dog. Witness 1 further stated that he recorded the incident on his cell phone video.
I viewed the video provided by Witness 1, which clearly depicted a male, later identified as Brandon Youngblood, choking and striking a white dog that was chained outside at Lot 10.
Later the same day, officers responded again to {redacted} for a second report of animal abuse at {redacted}. Witness 1 reported that Youngblood was once again outside abusing the same dog and recorded a second incident on his cell phone.
I spoke with Witness 2, who identified herself as Youngblood's girlfriend. {She} stated that Youngblood was abusing their dog because the dog had attempted to bite him. Witness 2 admitted the she and Youngblood transported the dog to the Grand Falls area, where they released the dog.
Witness 2 stated that the dog was alive at the time, was not limping, and ran off after being released. Witness 2 further admitted that Youngblood had abused the dog on prior occasions, that she had previously told him to stop and that if he continued, he needed to get rid of the dog.
Brandon Youngblood was contacted regarding the incidents. He made no statements and invoked his right to an attorney.
