What is being called a Common Core Rally is being held 7 p.m. Friday in the East Newton High School gymnasium.
Those scheduled to speak include Nina Dean, legislative assistant to Rep. Kurt Bahr, R-St. Charles. Bahr was the sponsor of HB 616 that would have prohibited the State Board of Education from adopting and implementing Common Core Standards, and Mary Byrne with Missouri Coalition Against Common Core.
Advertising sent to residents in the East Newton area indicates that state legislators scheduled to attend include Rep. Bill White, R-Joplin, Rep. Bill Lant, R-Joplin, and Rep. Mike Moon, R-Ash Grove.
