Downsizing State Government Committee meetings set in Joplin, Springfield

The Missouri House Downsizing State Government Committee, under the chairmanship of Rep. Paul Curtman, R-Pacific, has scheduled meetings across the state, including in Joplin and in Springfield.

Though it does not appear on the surface to have anything to do with downsizing state government, it appears that the subject of Common Core Standards may be addressed.

The Joplin meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, 320 E. 4th Street.

The Springfield meeting will be held that morning, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Library Center, Meeting Room B, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.

The following news release was issued by Rep. Curtman:

A legislative committee on Downsizing State Government will be hosting a series of public hearings and welcoming any and all who wish to submit testimony.

The tour is designed to solicit everyday citizens' and business owners' thoughts on ways to streamline government. This is your opportunity to speak directly to your government and let them know of your first-hand experiences and I would encourage you to attend. The committee would particularly like to hear from you if:

1) The state government is competing with you in your line of business and/or causing you to lose business opportunities.

2) You have witnessed inefficient government activity.

3) You can offer services or suggestions that might help the government operate more efficiently.

4) The state government is engaging in an activity you consider excessive or intrusive.

The Committee on Downsizing State Government welcomes your attendence and your comments.

This young man is my representative. I had some hope in him as a former marine and a college educated man that he would rise above petty party politics. He has disappinted to as much as a person can. With high unemployment and wages so low Missouri citizens literally cannot eat, Curtman launches a bitch session against Missouri government. As I understand it, supporting government jobs like city worker, fireman, policeman, teacher, etc actually reduces unemployment. Why in the world does this guy sink so low? His father is a Baptist minister and I suppose this kid is a christian. Where is is moral conviction to sharing and caring taught by the christian religion? "What you do to the neediest among you you do unto me ...or something like that".His interests seem to be in preserving his job. Maybe he did not like being a financial advisor at Edward Jones in Pacific? Maybe that was not enough money or an important enough job? He appeals to the most angry of the base voters who want NO damn government while at the same time collecting the socialistic social security, medicare, medicaid and disability checks. I know. I live in his district and see the stupid "patriot" stickers on their cars. This boy needs a "come to Jesus" moment as the christians call it. Paul, you need to get your head out of the libertarian and tea party news and look around you and do something that helps your people. You disappoint me as a former serviceman and a representative. I thought you were better than this.

Isn't it incredibly ironic that this meeting is being held in a town that has survived a disaster because of the funding and resources of both state and federal governments? What percentage of Joplin residents survive every day because the federal government, with the state, provides for them? Take that away and see what happens to your community. Where is this 800 million coming from? Even grants, unless provided by business or private organizations, can be tax-funded. Where are our new schools coming from, the storm shelters in all schools, and the daily operating funds? This meeting is being run by hypocrites drumming up votes. And they'll get them here, even from people who don't realize that they're enjoying the benefits of the government every day. I wonder if they've brought any government money into their communities to fund projects? It's always somebody else's program that is the problem, isn't it.

You know this guy really gets me ill. He is so damn proud of being a marine and I wonder what the hell he is doing for all the servicemen that will be coming home from the wars once we realize that funding wars and killing our children has been the downfall of many great countries? What does his stupid Libertarian stuff do for a guy who served 5 tours in the desert and comes home too screwed up to even work at McDonald's? These guys wind up o disability rolls and there are plenty of lawyers advertising helping get them service related disability. What is Curtman doing for anyone but Curtman? How about some public works programs to rebuild roads and use servicemen and women who are in good shape to work those jobs? Wouldn't that make more sense than downsizing governmentand do something for his "brothers in arms"? He just makes me sick.
