The public is invited to attend the Grand Opening of a historic World War II exhibit at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 3 at the Joplin Museum Complex. The Museum is located in Schifferdecker Park at 7th Street and Schifferdecker Avenue. The exhibit is part of Joplin citizen Allen Shirley’s collection.
Describing himself as a passionate amateur historian, Shirley says “There are many unique and historic, hand-signed items by the people who fought for our freedoms. This exhibit honors the sacrifices and accomplishments of our veterans of World War II.”
Admission to the exhibit is free, and it will be on display throughout the month of August at the Museum. Visitors will also have a chance to sign up to win an historic December 8, 1941 newspaper with coverage of the Pearl Harbor attack.
The Joplin Museum Complex is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, contact the Museum at 417-623-1180.
