Earlier this week, a Florida jury awarded financier Ron Perelman $6 million in his lawsuit against Morgan Stanley. Now the jury will determine whether Perelman should receive $1.8 billion in punitive damages.
Perelman filed his suit against the company, claiming it knew that Sunbeam was about to go into bankruptcy when he sold Coleman to Sunbeam in exchange for Sunbeam shares.
Sunbeam, now owned by the Jarden Corporation, has a plant in Neosho.
Forbes.com indicates the judge in the case is encouraging the two sides to reach a settlement on punitive damages.
