KC Star: Ten Newtonia homes destroyed, 30 damaged

Newtonia Mayor Dee Wormington told the Kansas City Star that 30 homes were damaged and 10 destroyed during Saturday's tornado:

In Newtonia, Mayor Dee Wormington picked through the collapsed building where she had stored her mother’s antiques. Next door, City Hall lay flattened by the tornado.

The mayor said 30 of Newtonia’s homes were damaged, 10 others destroyed. Nobody was seriously injured, but Wormington said she had a hard time getting through Sunday with her town in ruins.

“Every once in a while I break down and start to cry,” Wormington said. “But what can you do? We’ll do the best we can with a lot of prayers and a lot of hard work.”
