(One of those who was killed by the tornado that ravaged Joplin Sunday was Sarah Anderson, who worked at South Middle School at one time. Longtime secretary at South and East Jean Williams and former Assistant Principal Peggy Day wrote the following tribute to her former co-worker.)
Sarah Anderson worked for the Joplin School District for about 10 years. She spent her first years at North Middle School and then the next 4 years at South Middle School (now East Middle School) before going to Memorial Middle School (now the new South Middle School). She worked in the offices at each of these schools. She also worked in the summer at the Administrative Building or working in Summer School.
Sarah was a hard worker and almost never missed a day of work. She knew how to keep an office running efficiently. She was a good friend to many. Sarah knew all the students by name and they relied on her to help take care of their needs. Sarah took her job very seriously, but she also had a good sense of humor. While she took her job seriously, she also took time to laugh and enjoy friendship with her co-workers and students.
Sarah's family was her world. She was married to Bill Anderson. They had two children, Grace (college)and Quinton (JHS) who survive. Sarah and her family shared a strong faith in God, and that faith will sustain her children.

The Anderson's attend(ed) our church. Bill was a deacon, Grace teaches a toddler class, Quinton attends regularly and conducts some Wednesday night devotionals. Sarah was their rock -- rarely missing services, a great Christian lady. She and Bill will be terribly missed, but our congregation will wrap its arms around their children.
Grace: I prayed with you when we were cleaning up houses. God Bless your brother Quinton. Prayer requests have poured out in his name. Jesus pour some of your precious blood on him and let healing be.
Grace may your renovation on your house be a success. I was an experience I will not forget to meet you and pray with you. Follow in your parents footsteps, they were ones to be proud of and brought the word to you.
