"August 17, for me, was the greatest single day of my professional career, and I have our board of education to thank for that," Joplin Superintendent C. J. Huff told those attending the annual Missouri School Boards Association meeting today.
Huff was referring to the opening day of school for the Joplin School District, less than three months after an EF-5 tornado ripped its was through Joplin, destroying or damaging 10 of the district's building. That accomplishment, Huff said, was made possible, by the board.
Huff said the board made the tough decision to give him the authority to spend whatever money was necessary to help with the tornado recovery without asking the board beforehand.
The board was one of four recognized by MSBA today as Outstanding Boards of Education.
In his emotional speech, Huff also praises the children of Joplin, including some who overcame loss in the tornado to return to school Aug. 17.

Highly emotional? Surely you jest.
Perhaps this is why he gets a pass for all the problems? Once given the keys to the treasury, you can hardly blame Midas for using them.
