Mark Rohr holds on to job by one vote

One of the people described as a hero in the aftermath of the May 22, 2011, Joplin Tornado, held on to his job following a closed session Monday night- but only by a whisker.

In a story posted moments ago on the Joplin Globe website, reporter Susan Redden wrote that Benjamin Rosenberg, Bill Scearce, Jack Golden, and Trisha Raney voted to oust Rohr. Voting with the city manager were Gary Shaw, Mike Woolston, and Mike Seibert.

Abstaining from the vote were Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean and Morris Glaze.

The article did not mention a reason for seeking Rohr's resignation, but he has come under fire recently because of controversy surrounding the Public Works Department.

Mr. Rohr 's crocodile tears in his speeches following the tornado were bad enough, then his ridiculous ordinance requiring property owners to rebuild or lose their improvements I.e. driveways wasn't enough. He has public works employees demoted for not pursuing fines against citizens. He led the city into a deal with a master developer that was fined by the Securities and Exchage Commission prior to filing for bankruptcy protection in one of his developments.

Crocodile tears and corruption. Has he been taking lessons at MODOT?

Looking forward to a follow-up story!

Rohr's management style maybe a bit on the autocratic side, but you certainly can't argue with the results that he has been an integral part of both prior to and after the storm. Perhaps a better way for City Council to have dealt with matters of management style would have been to actually take the time to counsel him on their expectations rather than embarrassing themselves and our city by making a mockery of the city charter's clearly prescribed process for making decisions. Shame on all of you for handling things in this way.

Randy, if you are just going to allow posts that support your opinions, your blog is completely irrelevant.

What that has to do with this, I have no idea. I have always run comments from people who disagree with me. I welcome them. If you know someone who says differently, it is probably because that person wrote something libelous about me and expected me to be stupid enough to run it on my own blog. (That is not a violation of your First Amendment rights, you can always put it on a blog of your own and there have been a couple of idiots who have). A handful of comments also failed to make the cut because of highly inappropriate language.
