During a press conference that concluded just a short while ago, Cherokee County officials confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the county.
"Late last night, March 18, 2020, Cherokee County health officials confirmed the first positive case of novelcorona virus, more commonly known as COVID-19," Sheriff David Groves announced.
The virus was confirmed in a 52-year-old man who is "currently quarantined, but has not been hospitalized," Groves said.
Cherokee County health officials have been working to identify anyone who have may come in close contact with the man and anyone who may have been exposed to him, Groves said.
The officials will then contact those people.
