City of Springfield announces new guidelines for transactions during COVID-19 challenges

As Springfield’s largest public service organization, we know our citizens count on us to provide essential services every day. We want to assure the public that the City of Springfield will meet your service expectations as we maneuver through the dynamic challenges of COVID-19, commonly referred to as the coronavirus. We take our role in helping to protect the health of our customers very seriously.

Before entering our facilities, we respectfully ask all visitors confirm:

-You are not currently sick.
-You have not travelled to an area of the world with an active COVID-19 outbreak within the last 14 days.







-You have not be in close proximity with someone who is currently sick with the COVID-19 or any other respiratory illness within the last 14 days.

We know this is a stressful time. Life as we know it has been disrupted in myriad ways.

We are fortunate that have the right experts at the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and other public and private service agencies to chart our path forward as a community. Alternative Transaction Methods


In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, the City of Springfield is making every effort to limit in-person contact, while still maintaining our standard level of service to our citizens. This includes transitioning transaction methods and other documentation to be conducted through remote or electronic methods and encouraging communication by telephone, email or other electronic means. Thank you for helping us reduce the risk of exposure to other citizens and protect and preserve our organization’s ability to serve the community to the greatest degree possible.

Please consider the following alternative methods for your needs at the Busch Municipal Building:

Permits and Licensing

Building Development Services is offering a temporary alternative method for obtaining permits. Please email building@springfieldmo.gov. A permitting representative will contact you during the processing of your permit. Any further information will be obtained at that time, along with payment information. Credit Cards are the only accepted method of payment. As always, permits and inspections can be requested via eCity at ecity.springfieldmo.gov.

Sewer, excavation, driveway, encroachment and sidewalk permits should be requested by phone and/or email. Please call 864-1921 or 864-1980 or email mjessen@springfieldmo.gov or jturner@springfieldmo.gov.








The Licensing Department is asking that patrons conduct business via telephone, mail or electronically. Please contact our office at 864-1617 or email licensing@springfieldmo.gov. If you feel that your circumstance requires you to conduct business in person, please contact us and we will make arrangements to accommodate you.

Development Review

The development review reception counter is only open for those picking up or dropping off items related to an existing planning application. All new development review applications can be requested via eCity at ecity.springfieldmo.gov.

Visit springfieldmo.gov/jobs to fill out an application or call 417-864-1607. If you feel your circumstances require you to conduct business in person, City staff is still available to assist in-person in the first floor lobby during regular business hours.
