Hawley legislation would provide emergency family relief

In an interview with KHSB in Kansas City, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-MO outlined his Emergency Family Relief Act bill.

"(It's) just like a tax rebate," Hawley said.

"It would be based on the need. I think one of the best things we can do at this time is support families, give them purchasing power give them some peace of mind and allow them to cover their basic necessities and take care of their kids."

Hawley said families will not have to repay the money.

"No, this would be direct assistance. This is a national emergency and this is something like we've seen very few times in our national life and one of the reasons we have a federal government is because in times of national crisis and that's what we have here. We have the ability to act together as a nation and take extraordinary steps."
