Special prosecutor to handle case against Sarcoxie police chief

Judge Gayle Crane appointed Joplin attorney Joseph Crosthwait to serve as a special prosecutor in the case of Sarcoxie Police Chief Brandy Corum, who has been charged with official misuse of information, a misdemeanor.

The appointment of a special prosecutor was requested by Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney Theresa Kenney, who works with Corum regularly during the course of her duties.

According to the probable cause statement, Corum, 34, Carthage, ran a check on a license plate number to help her friend, who was going through a divorce and thought the car belonged to her husband's mistress.

A July 15 arraignment is scheduled in Jasper County Circuit Court before Judge Joseph Hensley.

I thought the mayor already found her innocent? Isn't she immune because double jeopardy is unconstitutional?
