Newton County added 122 COVID-19 cases over the weekend, putting the total at 279, according to a posting this morning on the Newton County Health Department Facebook page.
Of that total, 216 are currently in isolation.
The rapid increase in coronavirus cases goes along with what is being seen in surrounding counties.
On Friday, when the Health Department last released the number of cases, it said 46 had been confirmed in the previous two days.
Sixty-one COVID-19 cases have been released from isolation, while the county has had two deaths.
Friday's news release said 310 people were in quarantine. The statistics posted this morning did not include any quarantine number.
