Lamar Police Department investigates break-ins, spray-painting of racial slurs

The Lamar Police Department is looking for the people responsible for incidents of vandalism involving the spray painting of racial slurs.

In a message posted Thursday on the LPD Facebook page, Police Chief Joe Moore asked for the public help in finding those responsible for the burglaries and vandalism and indicated that the spray painting of the vile epithets is not something new, but has been an existing problem in the community.

The Facebook post is printed below:

As many of you are aware, there were recently two incidents that appear to have occurred as part of one continuous occurrence in our community.

Two buildings were broken into and graffiti was spray painted on the walls. This graffiti included racial slurs.

While always alarming, it is even more so in light of the events across our country today. The evidence from this incident suggests this crime was not targeted toward any individual. However, that does not lessen the impact this type of crime has had on our community.

I want to reassure the community, we take this crime very seriously and have been working diligently to locate those responsible and bring charges against them.

The Lamar Police Department is committed to providing a safe environment for all our citizens, businesses and visitors. We will use all the resources we have available to apprehend those who commit crimes in our city.

We cannot accomplish this without assistance from the entire community. Anyone with knowledge of these incidents is encouraged to contact the Lamar Police Department 417-682-3546
