(From Fifth District Congressman Emanuel Cleaver)As you may be aware, President Trump announced his decision to unilaterally levy tariffs on nearly every nation in the world last week—and I want to know how you feel about this decision.
Personally, I believe tariffs are not an all-encompassing economic strategy—at least not one that is made for long-term prosperity. When used appropriately, they can be a tool in America’s toolbox to protect vital industries and our national security.
When used inappropriately, as I believe the president is doing with across-the-board import taxes on our allies and adversaries alike, they lead to higher prices, fewer jobs, slower economic growth, and more contentious relationships with nations around the world. According to one study from the Yale Budget Lab, the average U.S. household will lose an estimated $3,800 in purchasing power as a result of this year’s tariffs.
While Missouri families are still struggling to keep up with the cost of living, I fear the president’s actions will lead to higher costs on items like cars, coffee, fruits, and other goods that Americans use every day. Already, the tariffs have created economic uncertainty that has led to a historic stock market selloff, hurting the hard-earned retirement portfolios and pensions of Missouri workers.

Need to add that little nugget of the orange peel possibly being part of an insider trader scheme. His billionaire boys club got alot richer over his catastrophic tariffs debacle.
"Irrationalism also depends on the cult of action for action’s sake. Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation. Therefore culture is suspect insofar as it is identified with critical attitudes. Distrust of the intellectual world has always been a symptom of Ur-Fascism, from Goering’s alleged statement (“When I hear talk of culture I reach for my gun”) to the frequent use of such expressions as “degenerate intellectuals,” “eggheads,” “effete snobs,” “universities are a nest of reds.” The official Fascist intellectuals were mainly engaged in attacking modern culture and the liberal intelligentsia for having betrayed traditional values. Stonks go up, stonks go down.
You can make lots of money either way!
Me thinks me agrees with whatever the hell 705 just said.
Donald Trump successfully bankrupted three casinos!
I wonder why he doesn't mention that Joe Biden kept Trump's tariffs that were put in place during Trump's first term.
Biden didn't cancel a single one and in fact renewed them.
If you want to talk about destroying the economy then look no forget than China killing all of our factories. That happened long ago at the hands of both parties.
Factories closed, the stores that sold the goods closed and entire malls closed.
Between 2000 and 2012, 1,276 factories closed every day for 12 straight years.
Meanwhile, all of the politicians amassed fortunes.
Where was this guy then? Where were any of them?
Unfortunately, many people under the age of 50 can not comprehend what these politicians and bankers stole from us. They got filthy rich while eliminating the middle class and forcing 2 income families while sending half our money overseas, only to launder it back into their own pockets. Tariffs are a good start, it should end with prisons and gallows.
Term limits will save this country. Unfortunately, states like missouri will always have elected officials making sure this never reaches a ballot. Trumps recent cabinet meeting is a prime example of pathetic cowards kissing the posterior of the king, complete deplorables doing anything to keep their power.
I decided to do my own research on the need for tariffs.
This does affect my family.
In the last year people in my household bought $3,489.26 of things from Walmar, while Walmart
purchased $0.00 worth of goods from us.
In response to this unacceptable trade deficit, effective immediately, a 200% tariff has been imposed on Walmart in our household.
Our household expects zero pushback from Walmart on this but we are ready just in case. We have read The Art of the Deal and are ready to proceed!
Can we begin the impeachment talk when dems destroy the magats at midterms?
