Couldn't they have just shot him in the leg or something?

Anonymous 628pm -
#1 - you do realize that the largest artery (the femoral) is in the leg and the guy would bleed to death in -2mins if this artery was struck?
#2 - police are trained to shoot to "stop the threat" - not pause the threat
#3 - this is in NO WAY the police officers fault, the deceased person put themselves in this situation by their own actions
#4 - the police academy is in Joplin and you should consider going and joining the Jasper County Sheriff's Office if you think you could have handled it better

Answer: No.

DId the officers being attacked with the knife suspect the armed perpetrator was intending to do at worst a stab to wound on them?

Probably not.

The officers on the scene had no choice but to assume the armed perpetrator attacking them was intending to do a real life Code 187 Murder Death Kill.

The officers had no option at the point of a knife coming at them.

Gavon Newton, was given the opportunity to put the knife down, just like a lot of idiots - do what the cops say - and live - bring a knife to gun fight and you are going to lose. Do people just have death wishes. Can't feel sorry for him - he was given a chance and he failed to take it.

Good Life Lesson for all you people out there - STOP and THINK - before acting like a jackass - because if you don't you might not have a Tomorrow!!!

5:21... I just asked a question. I was just troll fishing. DANG, you took the bait and swallowed it deep in your belly. I believe that if you play stupid games that you deserve to win stupid prizes. 100% justified self defense shooting.
