Complete text provided for Tim Jones' response to State of the State Message
Good evening. I am Tim Jones, Speaker of your Missouri House of Representatives. I am honored to speak with you tonight regarding a bold vision for the future of our state.
Moments ago, you heard our governor share his proposals for the direction our state should take. While his speech was rousing in rhetoric, it was short on substantive solutions.
We have heard similar speeches over the past six years, but despite the governor’s promises we have yet to see him deliver real-world results that will move our state in a better direction. Our governor mistakenly believes that more, bigger government is the answer, that his administration can decide how to better use your tax dollars, and that investments should be made in government programs rather than in the industrious people of this state.

Nixon: We must strengthen and reform Medicaid the Missouri way
Gov. Jay Nixon today addressed the media in Jefferson City on the importance of strengthening and reforming Medicaid the Missouri way. Below are his prepared remarks:
"Tomorrow, we will celebrate a New Year. And as we do every January 1, we'll reflect on what we've done over the past 12 months, and contemplate what we resolve to accomplish in the year ahead.
"But 2014 will be a little different. Tomorrow, 4.4 million Americans in states all across the nation - folks who are working, but don't have health insurance - will wake up and be eligible to get the basic health care services they need.

NEA video: Turning the tables and holding legislators accountable
You will never convince some of our legislators, but education does not just take place inside school buildings. Until we address the problems that plague society, such as poverty, crime, poor health, and drug abuse, we will only be able to make incremental steps in improving our school systems, yet teachers are held 100 percent accountable for the failures of society.
In this NEA video, the idea is proposed that we begin holding our legislators accountable. I will go for that.
