Public meeting set on options for new Joplin aquatic facility

(From the City of Joplin)

The public is invited to provide their input regarding options for the new aquatics facility by participating in a Public Meeting on Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m. at the Joplin Athletic Complex, 3301 West 1st Street.
The meeting will be held in an open house format allowing citizens to view a series of stations that share concept options developed from previous public input. Citizens will be able to discuss these options with members of the design team and offer their comments on the various plans. The meeting is set up in a come and go format.
The City’s Parks and Recreation Department and Water’s Edge, an aquatic facility engineering firm from Kansas City, Mo., hosted a public meeting in February that asked citizens to prioritize their preferences of aquatic facility features.  From this information, the design team developed the options to be presented.
All input will be gathered for the Parks and Recreation Board and Joplin City Council’s review.
Funding for the aquatic facility is available through the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax renewal that Joplin voters passed in August 2011. The aquatic facility is proposed for a Memorial Day 2013 opening.
