It appears that some of the controversial choices made by Governor Matt Blunt to receive license offices will not be getting them after all.
The Associated Press is reporting that Blunt administration officials have said the offices will likely be awarded to other people. The information was released just hours after the Missouri Ethics Commission dismissed Democratic Party complaints against Blunt for awarding the same offices to Hohulin and to a number of people connected to U. S. Attorney Todd Graves.
The complaints were dismissed on a technicality: Supposedly the offices had not been officially awarded yet (even though the announcements were made several weeks ago) so no ethics violations had taken place.
As you might expect, Democrats are crowing that Blunt backed down because he got caught, while the Republicans are saying that is not the case.
Department of Revenue Secretary Maura Browning said Thursday that Hohulin is unlikely to receive the contract that had been tentatively awarded to him, according to the AP article.

If only Blunt had one more family member as a lobbyist! Did you read today's Globe where Nodler and Stevenson avoid taking responsibility for the Medicaid cuts like a couple of teenagers? The Globe apparently let them write the article. "In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

This is not a real victory yet as I understand it, they just change the name on the contract to Bubs' wife's name and he will still be receiving two State incomes.
This is politics but for someone who used to profess to be the great protector of the people, (ha ha! ) this is still wrong for Hohulins to be getting this.
Can you check that out, Randy? We had heard that it was going in Marilyn's name, but I hope you are right and that they won't get it at all!!!
I am just glad for this blog. Otherwise, who would cover it? The Globe?
I will keep my eyes and ears open. The only information I have is from the Associated Press article, which I saw in the Kansas City Star and the Columbia Tribune, but which I do not recall seeing in The Joplin Globe. The director of the Department of Revenue is quoted as saying it was unlikely that Bubs will get the revenue office. It did not say that Mrs. Hohulin would not get the office, but that would leave the governor open for another barrage of criticism.
If the Hohulin clan isn't getting the appointment, I would think another applicant would have been contacted by now. There doesn't appear to be any "buzz" on the streets of Lamar about it.
Ha, maybe the Globe staff are reading the Turner Report. They covered Bubs today.
