Admittedly, few races are this close, but the final result of the Barton County Commission race between Mike Davis and Ben Reed shows the importance of a single vote.
When voting ended Tuesday, Davis was the unofficial winner, by a two-vote margin. Reed quite sensibly asked for a recount, the request was granted, and when votes were recounted Thursday, Davis' victory margin was one vote.
We all know there were people supporting both candidates who did not bother to go to the polls. While it doesn't happen often, if this election doesn't show the power of each individual vote, then that message is never going to get across.
