MAP results to be released today

The day feared by all Missouri teachers has arrived. MAP results are scheduled to be released today by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
We breathed a sigh of relief at South Thursday, when we were told that test scores were up in six of eight categories, stayed the same in a seventh and were down slightly in an eighth category, but it was one in which we had been considerably higher than other area schools.
In the category that affects me, eighth grade communication arts, 44 percent of South's students were in the top two categories, four percent up from last year and above the state average. At South, eighth graders' are prepared for the test by the communication arts, reading, and special education teachers.
A general view of results for Joplin can be found in Joe Hadsall's article in today's Joplin Globe.

The one thing that I have found is that current republicans have become very good at building a society of fear. NCLB should be permanently consigned to file 13.
