Mouton denies motion to suppress Memorial Middle School shooter's statement

Statements made to the police by Memorial Middle School shooter Thomas Gregory White can be used against him at his trial.
Jasper County Circuit Court Judge David Mouton on Monday denied the motion made by White's public defender Brett Meeker. The judge granted Ms. Meeker's motion for a continuance in the trial, which was scheduled to begin next Monday.
No new trial has been scheduled, according to court records, but a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept.21.
White, 14, is being tried as an adult on two charges of assault, and single counts of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, and attempted escape. White, at the time 13 and a seventh grader at Memorial, entered the school Oct. 7 with an assault rifle, fired the weapon into the ceiling, then pointed the gun at Memorial Principal Steve Gilbreth, but the weapon jammed, according to authorities.
