Carthage Press advertising manager Felix promoted to publisher
Advertising manager Gina Felix has been promoted to publisher of The Carthage Press, following the anouncement late last week that John Hacker had been named managing editor and Kevin McClintock associate editor:

Good move on all parts and promotions. I think these 3 promotions will help wash away the taint that's been there ever since Ron Graber was left go... It's a step in the right direction, for sure.
Yes, anon 9:35, for sure. Every other media outlet in the area now has to go up against the Dream Team, which will be a tough task.
When I read that John Hacker had been named managing editor, I assumed that he would be the head honcho at the paper. I view this announcement as kind of a slap in John's face. With Rick Rogers as the regional publisher, does the Press really need a publisher?
Yes, Anonymous 7:27, they do need a Managing Editor. I think because of the way Buzz ran things for so long, we got used to the paper having no on-site leadership. With Hacker in that position, I think we'll see some really exciting changes come to the Press in baby steps. If Gina is as business-minded as I've heard she is, then maybe the Press's staff has reason to see a little beam of hope at the top of their uphill battle.
Yes, the Carthage Press does need a publisher, someone who will give the "Dream Team" a swift kick in the ass to do such important things as update the website on a regular basis and follow up on stories.
Here is a fun project. Make yourself a list of the Dream Team and then get a Carthage phone book and see how many Dream Team members are listed. David Hoover the Website Manager is in the phone book, as is Amber Carter the Classified Ad person, I think. None of the rest have Carthage phone numbers listed. Not editor John Hacker, not Kevin McClintock, not Linda Rainey, not Rebecca Haines, not Alexandra Nicolas. Not even the publisher Gina Felix can be found in the Carthage listings. I can not even find a listing for the sports guy Cody Dyer. Seems to me that if the Dream Team wants to wow Carthage, they should at least have local phone numbers. Sure they are in the office, but news does not always happen between 9 and 5 Monday thru Friday. Carthage will not consider them local until they become local and invested in the community.
That's because journalists can't afford phones!
With Gloria Fletcher in the mix do you really need a regional publisher? Heck, Gloria can do it all, so you really don't need a regional publisher, a daily publisher or daily staff! Think of the savings! And she likes to kick ass! You go girl!
I read with great amusement about how none of the Carthage Press staff lives in Carthage, and thus "ain't local," and yet, taking a look back at the past Carthage Press, they've consistently had at least 5 local stories in every edition, with no AP or even Gatehouse-supplied material with the exception of an occasional health page. How much "local" can you get when you front page, all your briefs and all your coverage is Carthage-based?
Wow, talk about trying to make a mountain out of a turd dump.
Carry on, Dream Team. This staff is killing every other Gatehouse paper as well as the All-Mighty Joplin Globe.
Dream Team indeed. They're in much safer hands than they were. I think the Randy Turner days may be back. And thank God for that.

John Hacker running the newsroom is what the Press needs. Under old management, Mr. Ball, there was no true news sense. In fact, I don't think the papers had that since Mr. Turner was running the show. Hacker will create a new era (or bring back an old one), simply due to his superior reporting skills. And the Press, I see, actually has a staff now. I'm looking forward to the improvements. In the last 3 months, I've already seen signs of hope. Keep up the good work, guys, and congratulations, Mr. Hacker. Your well respected in the community.
Hacker is undoubtedly the hardest working journalist in Southwest Missouri. He is a great guy and will lead the Press in a strong direction with solid local news coverage. I might just have to subscribe.
i read a story that said family was imporant to gina felix.well let me tell you its not.her dad(ME) is 71 i have late stages copd .my last wish is to meet gina as the adult she has grown into and tell her how proud of her i am.how much i loved her since the moment she was born.i am in a wheelchair but live only 4 hours away will and will make the drive.she can even pick the spot public or not as lomg as i can get my wheelchair around.i have 20 percent of my lungs left so its not long.please jennie i am begging you grate me this last wish.i have told all else that matters goodbye.love always dad.5739452451 and i will meet you where ever you say.it takes me 4 hours to get there,
