Akin bill would cut Congressional pay if budget not passed

(From Congressman Todd Akin)

Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO), a member of the House Budget Committee, took a strong stand as a cosponsor of H.R. 3643, to cut Members of Congress pay if Congress does not pass a federal budget by October 1st of a fiscal year.
“The irresponsible stand by the U.S. Senate to refuse their constitutional duties as elected representatives of the people, and follow Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid by not passing a budget is an affront to our founders and the American people. With the President’s budget resulting in the fourth consecutive annual deficit exceeding $1 trillion, Congress must submit and pass a budget that will effectively deal with our debt instead of politicizing it.
“The Senate has not passed a budget in over 1,000 days, which has added to the anxiety felt by business and American households waiting for fiscal clarity at the federal level. While the House unfortunately cannot force the Senate to pass a budget, this legislation helps ensure that Congress is held accountable when it refuses to do its job.”
