KGCS-TV will provide live coverage of the debate among three Missouri Republican candidates for United States Senate in Missouri on Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in Corley Auditorium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.
The three candidates are Todd Akin, John Brunner and Sarah Steelman.
They are facing off to determine who will challenge the current U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. The program will allow voters to hear what they have to say about the issues and which ones they feel matter most in this election year. It will feature a media panel asking questions, as well as opportunities for questions to be submitted by audience members.
The debate is a cooperative venture between KGCS-TV, Zimmer Radio, The Joplin Globe, the Southwest Pachyderms and the MSSU College Republicans. It is sponsored by Tamko Building products.
“We’re glad to be able to work with the others to bring this program to area viewers,” says Judy Stiles, KGCS-TV General Manager and moderator for the program. “This is early in the election year, but the Missouri U.S. Senate race is one that will no doubt attract a lot of attention this year,” adds Stiles.
Tickets are still available for persons wishing to watch in person. They may be picked up at The Joplin Globe or Zimmer radio. A limited number of tickets are available through KGCS-TV on the MSSU campus.
Persons unable to see the program on Monday evening may see the program when it repeats on KGCS. Repeat airings will be at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, Sunday, March 18 and Monday, March 19.
KGCS-TV programming may be seen over the air on digital channel 22 and on regional cable television stations, including Cable One, Mediacom and Suddenlink. Students, faculty and staff will provide the production crew for the telecast. KGCS operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University
